Job summary

A fantastic opportunity to join our well established team of healthcare assistants. We are a busy and professional GMS training practice (outstanding CQC) offering services to 18000+ patients. We are part of a large Primary Care Network of 6 other practices (Mid Kent) and also operate a consultant led Eye Clinic.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ideally experienced Health Care Assistant seeking a new challenge. The ideal Candidate must have skills in general HCA duties as well as a "can do" attitude.

We have an excellent record of training and development within the team.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have the relevant formal qualifications and be proficient in health checks, treatment room duties, phlebotomy and other associated tasks.

About us

The whole team at New Hayesbank prides itself on patient centred care. The whole team admin and clinical play an important role in caring for our patients.

The nursing team is made up of multi-skilled personnel including Nurse Practitioners, Minor illness Nurse, Respiratory Nurse, Treatment Room Nurses and of course the HCA team. It is a very cohesive team who provide great support for each other at all times.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Duties and Key Result Areas

1. Maintain the strict confidentiality of patient and practice information.

2. Prepare consulting rooms and treatment rooms and maintain stock of examination instruments and specimen collection material. Ensure that consumables are in date in consulting rooms. Dispose of clinical waste.

3. Ensure adequate couch rolls available in each consultation room and change disposable pillow cases.

4. On receipt of new stock, store away according to policy and ensure that stock is rotated. Maintain stock levels according to Stock Control Policy.

5. Record and reset vaccine refrigerator temperatures daily.

6. Take and record blood pressures according to protocol. Also record smoking status, heights and weights of these patients.

7. Preparation of forms and other documents associated with patient services and ensuring that patients understand what is required of them.

8. Perform phlebotomy including glucose tolerance tests for patients and complete paperwork relating to these specimens and record in patient record.

9. Fitting/removing 24hr BP monitors.

10. Under supervision by a qualified nurse calibrate the coagucheck machine as per practice protocol before each anticoagulation clinic. Obtain a sample of blood from the patients finger and document the results in the yellow book.

11. Perform electrocardiography according to the practice protocol.

12. Undertake new patient and NHS Health Checks according to practice policy.

13. Undertake Diabetic annual review checks in line with practice protocol.

14. Act as Chaperone when required by clinician.

15. Assist in the ophthalmology clinic.

16. Inputting, updating and extracting patient data from the practice computer system.

17. Assist with audits as required.

18. Attendance at training sessions and team meetings as required for professional development.

19. Dispose of clinical waste and sharps according to practice policy.

20. Housekeeping functions as per the protocol to include: Change all pillowcases, wipe down the whole of three Hyfrecators, clean the weighing scales, clean the ECG machine, clean the medical gas equipment and wipe down the inside of the BP Monitor cuffs.

21. Vaccine/Cold chain storage, monitoring and recording.

22. Any other clinical task as trained and agreed to meet the needs of the practice.
