Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Secretary to provide general secretarial support to the medical team, involving typing of letters, referrals and reports. Processing documents, adding read codes and undertaking necessary actions on incoming documents. This post is a non-patient facing role and will be carried out in the back office.
The successful candidate must be able to work on their own initiative with strong IT skills. You must be organised and confident, have a friendly and approachable manner and ability to work under pressure.

Main duties of the job
- To provide an efficient secretarial/typing service for GPs and other health professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, complaints and patient referrals to a high standard of accuracy and forwarding them to the appropriate agencies.
- To carry out document processing, adding read codes and undertaking necessary actions on incoming documents then allocating letters to the clinical team.
- To initiate contact with patients regarding actions from incoming or outgoing documents and to also receive calls related to these.
- Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines.
- Support the recall process to invite patients in for reviews.
- Undertake statutory and mandatory training as required.
- Perform any other relevant and reasonable duties that may be requested by the Reception Team Leader or Practice Manager.
- Process and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
- Register new patients, temporary and any requiring immediate and necessary treatment, carefully checking all details for accuracy and enter on the computer registration link.
- Provide administrative assistance to practice staff as required, including filing, photocopying and scanning.

We are a 6 partner GMS (General Medical Services) practice situated in Arnold with 4 Salaried GP's, 2 ANP's, 4 Practice Nurses, 3 HCA's, one Practice Manager and a full compliment of administrative staff. As a well established training practice we normally have at least two registrars working with us.
We work collaboratively with other practices in our PCN (Primary Care Network). PCN staff working within the practice include Pharmacists, Mental Health Nurse, Physiotherapists and Care Coordinators.
