Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Practice Nurse to either develop your career further or bring your wealth of experience to enhance our team to enjoy your later career in a supportive and dynamic practice.

We are a warm, welcoming GP Practice with a reputation for looking after our team just as well as we look after our patients and we are searching for a confident, skilled nurse to join us to provide specifically, Cervical screening (smears), Travel vaccinations, Ear Syringing and supporting new Practice Nurses with training.

We have a part time position available. Please contact us with any questions regarding hours and days which are negotiable.

Salary offer is based on experience. The offer will also be adjusted commensurate with extra skills the candidate could contribute.

Main duties of the job

  • We require a Practice Nurse with up-to-date cervical screening, travel health, ear care experience, and the ability to mentor in cytology.
  • Also, someone who enjoys patient interaction and delivers care with confidence and compassion.
  • Is a team player who appreciates a positive workplace culture
  • Be part of an existing nurse team who do our Long Term Condition reviews.

The practice will ensure that the post holder has access to appropriate clinical supervision and an appropriate named individual in the organisation to provide general advice and support on a day-to-day basis.

About us

We have a list size of 6500 and a full team including GPs, Nurses, HCA, ACPs, Clinical Pharmacists, First contact physio, Mental Health Practitioner, Management team, Dispensers, Reception, Secretarial and Admin staff. We are an approved training practice and have GP Registrars working in our team.

Primary key responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Practice Nurse. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • To support the Infection Prevention Control (IPC) lead and to work to the IPC Policy.
  • To assess the needs of patients ensuring the provision of healthcare is appropriate, incorporating evidence-based practice
  • To support implementation and embed health promotion and wellbeing programmes
  • To support implementation of individual treatment plans for chronic disease patients that promote health and wellbeing
  • To identify and support patients at risk of developing long-term conditions, preventing adverse effects to patients health
  • As required, to provide routine nursing care to patients in accordance with clinical based evidence, NICE and the NSF
  • To co-ordinate the provision of travel medicine services
  • To co-ordinate the provision of cytology service to our patient population and mentor other nurses when required
  • To maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with extant legislation
  • To ensure read codes are used effectively
  • To ensure compliance with the practice chaperone policy
  • To prioritise health issues and intervene appropriately
  • To support the team in dealing with clinical emergencies
  • To recognise, assess and refer patients presenting with mental health needs
