Main duties of the job

Job Summary for Salaried GP

  • Role: Provide 4 clinical sessions weekly, supporting 2 partners. This helps free them for administrative and teaching duties. The practice uses EMIS Web.
  • Qualifications: GP Performers List, MRCGP, CPR certification, and full driving licence.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe and effective care for registered patients.
  • Work with the team for coordinated care, manage patient queries, handle prescriptions, and participate in the duty rota.

Job Description for Salaried GP

Role overview You will be working as a salaried doctor to provide 4 sessions per week clinical support to the 2 partners. Your input will allow the partners more time to undertake the necessary CCG / Federation / Network / Teaching and administrative aspects of general practice. We are an Emis Web Practice.

Hours of work Your standard clinical session will be 4hrs 10 min, clinical contact being mainly consultations but may include home visits and telephone calls. Within this session there is a 1 hour 10 minute non-clinical time (NCT) that being administrative/CPD (20 mins) time as well as 2 admin slots . When you are undertaking a duty Dr day you will be expected to be available to receive work from 8:00am until 6:30pm, including being available on your mobile as the OOH contact 8:00-8:30am & 6:00-6:30pm (calls are extremely rare in reality). There may be additional hours required to complete the duty doctor workload for the day, according to each days need.

Working days You will be required to work 2 sessions daily, days to be confirmed (either Thursday & Friday or Monday & Tuesday)

Surgery times& duties

On non-duty days you will be working a morning surgery of 2.5 hoursplus a maximum of 2visits (more often than not there are zero visits) and an afternoon surgery of 2.5 hours. On days when you are duty you may need to extend your surgery as demand requires. The duty template will be the same for all doctors. Duty days require considerable flexibility; this may involve longer clinical sessions as the need arises each day. The duty rota will be apportioned pro-rata between all doctors.

Annual leave 6 weeks + Bank holidays pro rata. These must be booked with 6 weeks notice and co-ordinated with the practice plan.

Study leave 1 week per year pro rata for personal study (in addition to CPD time incorporated within each session in non-clinical time) that requires reasonable notice to be accommodated. Evidence of CPD activity / certificates will be required for all study leave.

Main duties and responsibilities

Clinical

  • To provide safe effective clinical care to patients registered with the surgery on an acute or on-going basis as the clinical need arises.
  • To work within the practice team to share knowledge and experience to facilitate joined up, continuous health care contributing to close team working and good communication
  • To make appropriate clinical decisions with regard to involving external agencies including secondary care
  • To contribute to the practice extended hours service pro-rata, that may include Saturday morning (8am 11am) or week day evening surgeries, whilst the surgery is signed up to offer this enhanced service.
  • To contribute to the duty doctor rota on pro-rata basis, duty days requiring availability from 8am 6:30pm with a varying clinical load and duties according to daily need. This includes surgery, telephone, scripts, visits, staff emails, processing results of those on annual leave, supporting other clinical staff etc.
  • Process a share of medicines management/prescriptions
  • Process your own results/path reports
  • Process a share of the documents handling tasks/documents/requests
  • To be involved in QOF, Enhanced services and other service provision and work streams as needed by the practice.
  • To participate in duty cross cover for annual leave of others by sharing out of absent doctors duties. (Your scheduled duty days will be reciprocally covered when you are away)

Duty days include:

  • Co-ordinate home visit allocation and complete the allocated visits required on the day. (where duty, you will be responsible for any visits added to the list after 1pm
  • Be first point of contact for urgent requests (Duty Dr Days) generated by patients through the admin/reception team
  • Support other clinical staff where required (GP Registrar, Nurse, HCA, Admin, Reception team) including patient reviews, tasks, prescription signing or other task assisting their clinical work.
  • Managing appointment book
  • Managing your share of on the day medication requests and all medication requests received after 3pm
  • Signing of paper scripts
  • Process Tasks from Docman letters & the admin team (shared between all docs)
  • Processing of own results as on normal days but also actioning the results of doctors that are on leave or off sick
  • Be available on own personal mobile between 8:00-8:30am & 6:00-6:30pm

  • To keep accurate and clear medical records including correct use of Read codes/SNOMED codes
  • Be responsible for managing your own path results and a proportion of scanned letters each day.
  • Use practice IT systems to do referrals, certificates and other administrative tasks associated with clinical work in a correct and timely fashion.
  • Private reports / medical insurance work will be only when clinically necessary. Time to be taken from non clinical allowance.
  • To liaise with, and communicate professionally with, external agencies to ensure appropriate health care outside the practice for our patients.
  • Participate in practice weekly meetings where requested (when occur within contracted hours)
  • Work within the provided clinical system and team to ensure we meet our QOF targets
  • Keep up to date with and attend mandatory training using study leave allowance or your own time where necessary. For any in-house training you are required to attend, you will be offered TOIL at the discretion of the partners.
