Job summary

The Simpson Centre and Penn Surgery are recruiting for a Phlebotomist to cover maternity leave (there may be an opportunity to extend to a permanent role). The role is to work a full day Monday and then covering morning clinics Tues-Fri. The majority of blood clinics are held at The Simpson Centre with a requirement to go to The Penn Surgery at least once per week. Main duties of the job

Main duties are to collect blood samples from patients across both sites. Blood clinics are held each morning and as well as making our patients comfortable you will have accurate attention to detail in completing the relevant paperwork e.g. checking patient identification, recording the blood sample in accordance with practice protocol and ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.

The role will also include managing the administration of diabetic recalls.

The Simpson Centre and Penn Surgery is a very well established practice in Beaconsfield and Penn. The Beaconsfield surgery moved to a purpose built centre in 2022 with a pharmacy attached. The practice is run by 8 GP partners including our Managing Partner, 5 partners are based at the Beaconsfield site with 3 partners at Penn. We have very low attrition rates and have an excellent team of genuinely lovely people. The nursing team consists of 2 Lead Nurses, 2 Nurses, HCA and a Phlebotomist. We encourage people who are keen to progress in their field and as a training practice offer opportunity to do so.

HOURS: 27.5 Hours per week (approx) to cover

1 full day Monday

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurse Manager and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral from a GP or consultant.

Approx. 1 session per week will be dedicated to diabetes administration. (Monday pm)

Duties and responsibilities:

Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.

Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures.

Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.

Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.

Checking patient identification against GP/Consultant request and confirming with the patient.

Recording collection of blood sample in the patient record in accordance with the practice procedure.

Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.

Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.

Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues.
