Specialist Respiratory Nurse
This role can be Sessional/Locum or fixed term contract for 12 months
Rate - dependant on experience
Hours - multiple sessions available (session = 4 hours)
Location - multiple sites across the city available
South Doc Services supports 9 Primary Care Networks covering a
population of 445,000 and oversees SDSmyhealthcare GP Federation of over 65
Practices across the Birmingham area.
As part of the commitment to improve access to healthcare across
the local area we are establishing a GP Led Specialist Respiratory Clinical
Review Service to provide a community-based service to improve asthma and COPD
care across the Birmingham. The service will deliver enhanced respiratory care
and diagnostics (Spirometry/FeNO) from multiple sites across the city to
promote patient choice and accessibility and deliver quality care closer to
home.
As a Registered
Nurse with current NMC registration, you will have significant post
qualification experience in the field of Respiratory disorders and a clear
understanding of respiratory management pathways. With strong communication and
organisational skills and a flexible approach, you will work collaboratively
with patients and service team members to facilitate the best possible patient
experience and outcomes.

Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities
The
post holder will be expected to undertake the normal duties and responsibilities
associated with being a Respiratory medical professional within a community
clinic; responsibilities to include:
Clinical
1. Maintaining
the highest clinical standards at all times and in accordance with accepted
good medical practice
2. Ensuring
they will make him/herself available to undertake virtual and face-to-face
consultations as expected from an Respiratory Nurse within a community clinic, in
accordance with the timetable as agreed.
3. Making
professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems
4. Assessing
the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
5. In
consultation with patients and in line with evidence-based best clinical
practice developing treatment plans
6. Recording
clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
7. Championing
the organisations clinical governance programme for the provision of safe,
high quality patient care
8. Referring
the patient back to their own GP for on-going
management, whilst promoting upskilling.
9. Prescribing
in accordance with local prescribing formulary (and generically) whenever this
is clinically appropriate

Respiratory Service from across Birmingham. They will support the Lead GP and
clinical staff involved in the delivering of the service. The post holder will
be a clinical expert working to provide a comprehensive virtual assessment of
patients presenting with non-urgent Respiratory conditions and face-to-face
review and diagnostics (FeNO/Spirometry) when deemed necessary.
