Title:Children's Health Promotion Nurse or Health Visitor
Responsible to:Service Manager
Accountable to:Professionally and clinically accountable to clinical leads of Sparkbrook Children's Zone
Job summary
Supporting outreach activities within schools and community venues, including giving opportunistic vaccinations. Running well child clinics, measuring height/weight, recording smoke exposure, healthy start vitamin use, feeding concerns, dental caries, bottle/dummy use beyond 1y of age, concordance with long term condition medications, vaccination status. You will have control and influence on non-core hours.

Key responsibilities
- To be responsible for the unsupervised implementation of well child checks and provision of support for problems identified.
- To provide efficient, effective and evidence-based nursing care to children and young people within the community clinic setting.
- To be competent in the recognition of common life threatening emergencies in children and be able to provide basic life support (PILS or equivalent) in the community setting while waiting for an ambulance.
- To adhere to child protection policies and guidelines.
- To maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records, using appropriate documentation and Nursing Information System, and ensure their confidentiality and safe keeping in accordance with the NMC and trust guidelines.
- To be competent in storage and administration of routine childhood vaccinations, including flu vaccines, according to The Green Book and RCN policy and procedures.
- To organise workload in line with clinical priorities and local community opportunities.
- To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside the project Family Support Advisor, Community Connector, Programme Manager and other medical staff.
- Connect with and liaise with other mostly health professionals to support cross referrals and wider case management as needed.

- Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements

- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

- Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs within the area of responsibility
- Know the general principles of first aid and resuscitation to be able to undertake initial actions as appropriate

- It will be the post holders responsibility to assess the effort and environment of the task being undertaken for example: If the post holder is undertaking a leg ulcer clinic they will need to assess what is manageable for them, with bending to get to the legs, lifting legs, etc. The post holder will work in accordance with the organisations manual handling policy.

9. The post holder will play a pivotal role in primary prevention as health educators promoting lifestyle advice, facilitating health access for diverse groups and putting in place reasonable adjustments, from longer appointment times to organising interpreters

- Understand and apply legal policy that supports the identification of vulnerable and abused children and adults, being aware of statutory child/vulnerable adult health procedure and local guidance

- Participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training to include:
- Participate in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
- Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work
