Job summary

General practice nursing tasks including long term condition reviews, immunisations and assisting the clinicians where necessary.

Candidates must have good communication skills, be flexible and have a positive attitude.

Main duties of the job

Brief outline of the role would include;

  • Perform Cervical screening
  • Provide adult and child immunisations, hormonal injections and travel vaccinations
  • Perform venepuncture and electrocardiography
  • Carry out ear examination and syringing
  • Undertake wound care and management
  • Provide advice on lifestyle issues
  • Provide a smoking cessation service
  • Provide management and reviews of long term conditions

About us

We are a busy but friendly GP practice and pride ourselves on providing an excellent standard of care to our patients. Our clinical support staff are important in helping us to achieve this and we are looking for an individual who is approachable, enthusiastic and motivated with good communication skills.

We have a small nursing team, we currently have 2 nurse's and a HCA.

We have an open and supportive culture and staff have clearly defined roles and responsibilities within the practice.

We provide a high quality of care to all patients in a timely manner whilst offering choice and patients involvement in there care.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
  • Cytology
  • Wound care
  • Removal of Sutures
  • New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis
  • Travel Clinic
  • ECGs
  • Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
  • Venepuncture
  • Hypertension Management
  • Ear syringing
  • Routine immunizations/Childhood immunisations
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Interest in Diabetes or Coronary Heart Disease and Contraception.
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
  • Other tasks will include
  • Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
  • Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
  • Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Maintain stock of waiting room leaflets as instructed by partners and Practice Manager
  • Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
  • Ordering of stock from the District Hospital
  • Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
  • A duty to advise senior clinicans of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
  • On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
