Job summary
The Healthcare Assistant is a key member of the primary care team, delivering high-quality, evidence-based care within a general practice setting. Working alongside GPs, practice nurses, nurse practitioners, nursing associates, and other members of the team, the Healthcare Assistant plays a vital role in supporting patient care, promoting healthy lifestyles, and helping patients to manage their health and wellbeing. This role combines clinical skills with a compassionate, patient-centred approach, ensuring that individuals receive safe, effective, and timely care
Main duties of the job
The Healthcare Assistant will support the clinical team in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care. Duties may include:

Carrying out routine health checks, such as blood pressure, weight, height, and pulse monitoring.

Performing venepuncture (phlebotomy) for blood tests.

Conducting ECGs and urine testing.

Supporting long-term condition management (e.g., diabetes, COPD, hypertension) through regular monitoring.

Assisting with immunisations and vaccinations (where trained and competent).

Undertaking NHS Health Checks and new patient checks.

Delivering wound care and dressings under the supervision of a registered clinician.

Providing lifestyle advice on diet, exercise, smoking cessation, and alcohol awareness.

Supporting infection prevention and control measures.

Maintaining accurate clinical records in line with practice and NHS guidelines.

Assisting with administrative and clinical tasks to ensure the smooth running of the practice.

We are also fortunate to have an integrated pharmacy team comprising Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, who contribute significantly to the safe and effective management of prescribing and medication use.
This robust clinical workforce is underpinned by a highly skilled and efficient administrative team that ensures the seamless operation of the practice. Together, our multidisciplinary team is committed to providing outstanding care and continually improving health outcomes for the communities we serve.
