Job summary

Parliament Hill Medical Centre is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide leadership and support to our experienced practice team. The successful candidate will have experience managing teams and be able to ensure the smooth running of the practice. We would envisage a working week between 30 and 35 hours over 4 or 5 working days.

Main duties of the job

The role requires an individual confident in managing staff and with strong leadership skills. Someone who is capable of balancing strategic and financial management alongside more general management including human resources, health and safety, IT and quality improvement. The successful candidate will be supported by a deputy practice manager and experienced administration team in overseeing the day to day running of a safe, effective, efficient and happy practice.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Practice Manager. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will depend on factors such as workload and staffing levels.

a) Oversee the management of the day-to-day operations of the practice, ensuring that staff achieve their primary responsibilities.

b) Manage the HR processes, including recruitment, relevant checks, contractual issues, appraisals and staff performance.

c) Monitor workforce planning, ensuring a skill mix and staff have the appropriate level of training to enable them to carry out their individual roles and responsibilities effectively.

d) Ensure employment law and legislation is adhered to.

e) Assist with project management within the practice.

f) Keep up to date with developments and changes within primary care.

g) Assist in ensuring QOF and commissioned service targets are met.

h) Manage the complaints process in line with current legislation and guidance.

i) Enhance team expertise and financial skills across the broader finance team and managers/clinicians. Collaborate with colleagues in Contracting, Income, and Costing & Information/Performance Management to ensure integrated and coherent planning and analysis

j) Assist in the significant event process.

k) Deal with contracts and maintenance for services and equipment.

l) Oversee the review and update of all practice policies and procedures.

m) Manage the practice IT system, including compliance with the Data Security Protection (DSPT).

n) Assist with the coordinate the practice development plan and business continuity plan.

o) Ensure on-going CQC compliance.

p) Ensure the practice maintains compliance with its NHSE contractual obligations.

q) Provide advice and support to the team to ensure effective team working.

r) Manage effective communication, both internal and external and ensure the website and other communication platforms are accurate and up to date.

s) Support the management of the Patient Participation Group.

t) Manage estates and facilities, including health and safety aspects and risk assessments.
