Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring Health Care Assistant to join our friendly GP Practice. The health Care Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, and preventative care, health promotion and patient education and support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services. Phlebotomy skills and experience working in general practice are desirable and preferred. A team player with good clinical skills and an interest in further training and [personal development are vital. The ability to work autonomously within a busy team environment is essential. Salary is negotiable, depending on experiance.

Main duties of the job

To provide services to patients at the Practice, within the training and professional competence of the post holder.

To support Doctors and Nursing team in providing an effective level of care to the Practice patient population.

To undertake tasks and duties as delegated by the Lead Nurse or other suitably qualified regulated professionals.

To ensure your actions are professional and consistent with the practice policies and protocols.

To conduct audits and patient screening in pursuance of the objectives of the Quality & Outcomes Framework.

About us

Dr Hamid's Practice is a established Practice in central Rochdale. We operate from spacious purpose build premises on a single site. The premises are opposite the Tram and Train Station. We have a team of two GP's a Practice Nurse and a Advance Nurse Practitioner, supported by a team of administration staff. In addition, we work closely with our PCN Practices with whom we share a range of clinical staff.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Undertake new patient health checks.

Support the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes.

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure temperature,and pulse rate, recording findings accurately.

Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly.

Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.

Support the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.

Carry out BMI checks as directed.

Act as a chaperone as required.

Undertake venepuncture. (Essential)

Administer flu vaccinations, B12, shingles etc in line with Health care Assistant protocol.

Carry out ECGs as requested.

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.

Provide support during minor operations as required.

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.

Ensure safe storage, rotation of vaccines within area of responsibility.

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy.

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Healthcare Assistant may be requested to:

Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead.

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.

Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation.

Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate good levels of literacy, numeracy, verbal and written skills
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Qualified in Phlebotomy
  • Care Certificate

Desirable

  • Experience of working in primary care
  • NVQ Level 3 in health and social care
