Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to our practice population. They will provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care, while offering professional support to GPs and other members of the primary healthcare team.

Main duties of the job

The following are the key responsibilities expected of the practice nurse, with training available if required.

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by Lead nurse and GPs
  • Smears/Cytology
  • Wound care / ulcer care/Doppler
  • Removal of Sutures
  • New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis
  • Travel Clinic
  • Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
  • Chronic disease management
  • Ear syringing
  • Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Interest in Diabetes or coronary heart disease and Contraception.
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to lead nurse or GPs as appropriate
  • ECGs if required
  • Venepuncture if required
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings if required

Our multidisciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, pharmacists, First Contact Physiotherapists, administrators, and other healthcare professionals, all working together to care for approximately 25,000 patients. Job responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance,Ensure all equipment used by nurses and GPs is properly maintained and cleaned, following appropriate hygiene and safety protocols.

Room Maintenance,Maintain GP and Nurse rooms, ensuring they are stocked and that items are rotated as necessary.

Chaperoning & Patient Assistance,Chaperone and assist patients during examinations with other clinicians, ensuring patient comfort and confidentiality.

General Cleanliness,Maintain the tidiness and cleanliness of nurses' and treatment rooms, adhering to infection control guidelines.

Stock Management,Maintain stock levels in waiting areas, including leaflets and health promotion literature, as directed by the Partners and Practice Manager. This includes ordering necessary literature and items from the District Hospital and ensuring vaccinations are stocked appropriately.

Administrative Support,Participate in administrative tasks within the Practice, including but not limited to handling records and supporting the team with any necessary paperwork.

Accurate Record-Keeping,Ensure all records are accurately maintained at all times, including any clinical or administrative documents relevant to your duties.

Reporting Issues,Inform Lead nurse of any potential issues or errors regarding your assigned tasks, offering solutions where possible.

Clinical Monitoring,Assist with DOAC Monitoring Books and related administrative tasks.

Recalls & Searches,Assist with patient recalls and searches to ensure timely follow-ups and care.

Meeting Participation,Attend and participate in Practice meetings when required.

Additional Duties,Undertake any other duties delegated to you that are in line with the role, including contributing to new procedures and improving practice operations.
