Newbury Street Practice is looking for a prescription clerk to join our exciting and dynamic team situated in a new purpose built reception area.

Main duties of the job

To be the first point of contact for medication related queies. Ensure patient is receiving high quality care regarding their medication process and monitor high risk patients. Provide patient education on medication ordering and advise them when appropriate.

About us

Newbury Street Practice has a team of GP's, healthcare practitioners as well as admin and secretarial teams. The practice has just had a new reception/clinical rooms and waiting room area built. We look after approximately 16,000 patients and are part of the Wantage Primary Care Network.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Administrative

o Answering medication queries from patients, staff members and pharmacies/care homes

o Inputting prescription orders

o Ensure safe and appropriate storage of medicines

Collate information from medication related queries and forward to an appropriate healthcare professional in a timely manner

Promotion of electronic repeat dispensing and online ordering

Liaise with patients and healthcare providers to obtain correct prescription information

Manage prescription requests from vulnerable/high priority patients and care home residents

Work with Prescribers to provide a responsive repeat prescription service, in accordance with any relevant and appropriate policy or protocol and template

Delivering the technical aspects of prescription preparation to ensure the safe prescribing of medicines

Comply with legal and professional requirements, accepted guidance on professional practice, and with safe systems of work for re-authorising repeat prescriptions

Liaise with pharmacies on the supply of prescribed drugs, alert clinicians of any supply issues and forward information on the recommended alternative

Be aware of monitoring requirements for selected drugs or categories of drugs and follow up required monitoring with patients concerned

Bring any queries to the attention of the relevant Prescriber to include under and over usage

Liaise with external pharmacy services and patients to resolve queries and communicate changes to medications

Build good working relationships with local Pharmacies to help enable the Practice prescription service

Check emails and tasks regularly, actioning them appropriately

Create tasks and assist clinicians in managing document workflow relating to prescriptions

Establish and maintain filing and administrative systems so that written or computerised information is easily accessible and secure Escalate any problems to Team Leader

Provide cover for members of the Prescription team during periods of sickness and annual leave

Undertake training as required to support safe and effective services for the Practice

Carry out any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Clinicians or Managers

  • Good General Education including Mathematics and English

  • Previous GP practice or Pharmacy experience
