Job summary

The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) will work as part of the general practice team, delivering high-quality patient care and supporting clinical staff in the provision of services. The post holder will perform a wide range of healthcare assistant duties in line with practice policies, clinical protocols, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

- Carry out clinical procedures such as blood pressure monitoring, height/weight/BMI measurements,

urinalysis, venepuncture (if trained), ECGs, suture removal, and FeNO testing.

- Support chronic disease management clinics (e.g. diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension).

- Perform NHS Health Checks in line with local and national guidelines (if trained).

- Undertake phlebotomy in accordance with training and competency assessment (if applicable).

- Prepare patients for examinations and assist clinicians where required with minor ops, coil fitting/removal, implant fitting/removal.

- Ensure accurate recording of clinical observations and patient information in electronic records.

- Maintain stock levels of clinical supplies and ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained, and stored safely.

- Provide chaperoning for patients when required, in accordance with practice policy.

- Promote health education and healthy lifestyle advice to patients within the scope of role.

- Support and help deliver immunisation and vaccination clinics as appropriate.

Heathbridge Practice is a fantastic team of GPs, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, PCN roles and Administrative staff working to better the lives of patients in Putney in South West London. We are well regarded in Wandsworth for high quality patient care.

Our practice is well situated close to Putney High Street, with easy access to coffee shops and transport links, and the river nearby.

Staff are fully supported by a team of clinicians on site, including full time pharmacist, FCP physios, Physicians Assistant, Social prescriber, and a comprehensive admin team with care coordinators and a referral and patient services hub.

Training and Professional Development

- Maintain mandatory training including Infection Control, Basic Life Support (BLS), Safeguarding Adults and Children, Health and Safety, and Information Governance.

- Attend relevant training and updates to maintain competence and develop skills.

- Participate in supervision, appraisals, and performance reviews.

Governance, CQC and Compliance

- Work in accordance with CQC standards, practice policies, and national guidelines.

- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with GDPR and data protection requirements.

- Report incidents, near misses, and safeguarding concerns in line with practice procedures.

- Contribute to clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

- Act in accordance with safeguarding policies for children and vulnerable adults.

- Recognise signs of abuse or neglect and report concerns appropriately.

- Maintain up-to-date safeguarding training relevant to the role.
