Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Receptionist within our friendly, rural Dispensing Practice. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and hard working individual to join our team. Confidentiality, Diplomacy and excellent people skills are essential for this post.

Working days required are Wednesday and Friday 10am to 6.30pm.

You will be working within our Reception & Dispensary Team.The work is varied, challenging and rewarding. If you are a person who strives to be the best they can be, and want to be part of a like minded team, then this job may be for you.

Main duties of the job

You will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors and undertake a variety of duties in accordance with practice protocols, in a professional manner. Providing a friendly and efficient service for all our patients, Doctors and other members of the team.

You should have excellent communication skills and a 'can-do' attitude. You must be computer literate, and attention to detail will be important to you. You will be organised and have a flexible approach to working. You will be able to remain calm under pressure.

Experience of working in a GP Practice would be an advantage.

About us

Chelford Surgery is a rural practice, caring for 4000+ patients, situated just outside Macclesfield. We also dispense medication to our patients from this site.

We have a strong and active Patient Participation Group who are very supportive of the Practice and offer feedback and suggestions about our services.

The surgery uses EMIS Web and although experience of this would be an advantage, training will be given.

We pride ourselves on giving a high standard of patient care, with a positive attitude, and work hard to keep our good CQC rating.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The role will involve:

Receiving, assisting and directing patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Providing general assistance to the practice team and projecting a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or on the telephone.

The list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive:

Reception

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice;

Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed;

Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non-General Medical Services) services, accept payment and issue receipts for same;

Handing completed repeat prescriptions/medication to patient and checking names and addresses as per protocol. Collect and record payment where relevant, ensuring adherence to legal requirements of dispensing processes;

Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary, completing appropriate processes/paperwork;

Appointments

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments by telephone or in person;

Using your own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner;

Enter requests for home visits into the appointment system, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to Duty Doctor;

Medical records

Patient notes and correspondence:

Ensure correspondence, reports, results etc are filed promptly and in the correct electronic records, ensuring that all recent correspondence is available when patients are seen;

Handling/disposal of confidential patient identifiable paperwork/items as per protocol;

Computer

Enter patient information on to the computer as required

Ensure that all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately;
