Job summary
The GP Assistant is a new role to help free up the time of the Doctors by taking over some of the administration functions.
Working within strict protocols, the GP Assistants will take all appropriate actions and arranging follow ups as indicated in all incoming hospital letters, so that the letters do not need to always be read by the GPs.
The role will also involve a few clinical elements to support the team including processing urine samples, taking Blood pressures, etc
Main duties of the job
Job Overview
Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for
the GP in terms of actions. Signposting
some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
Extracting all information from clinical letters
that needs coding and adding to notes.
Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and
follow up appointments of patients.
Dipping urine and taking blood pressure.
Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core
elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms,
mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
Administration of consent forms e g Coils, Minor
Surgery, giving consent to share records.
Helping
the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. arrange admission while the GP can
continue with their consultation(s).
About us
Aire Valley Surgery is a training practice with two sites, and
everyone works across both sites at Rawdon, LS19 6DD and in Yeadon LS19 7JN. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to help manage our growing workload, and protect the clinical staff time for clinical matters.
Our big practice with a small friendly team approach is increasing
capacity and we are looking for a new GP Assistants to join our team. We currently have 5 partners, 6 Salaried GPs
and our clinical team also consists of 2 ANPs, 2 Physicians Associates, 2 Practice
Pharmacists, 3 Nurses, 3
HCAs, and a Care Coordinator supported by a fantastic management and admin
team.
Aire Valley Surgery is a training practice, which means that we
have a regular intake of Medical Students (years 1,2 and 3) in addition to our GP Registrars and FY2 doctors.
Aire Valley Surgery participates in a range of projects and enhanced
services and works with Yeadon Primary Care Network.

One to work the first half of the week and the other to work the second half of the week, with some flexibility to help cover for holidays of the other.

- Detailed patient services knowledge
Experience

- Must have customer/patient care skills and have worked in a customer/patient facing environment.
- Secretarial experience is essential.
- Competence in Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to compile and analyse statistical information.
- Experience of working with clinical systems i.e. Systm1 is essential
Desirable
- Experience of working in a public sector/healthcare environment would be extremely advantageous.
