Job summary

We are looking for a practice nurse who has experience of working within the NHS to join our extensive friendly practice team.

We are seeking a team player with flexible and committed attitude to work.

The role will consist of the delivery of practice nursing care to our patient population, monitoring of long term conditions, health prevention and screening, they will work collaboratively with the practice team to meet the needs of our population.

The position is full time working weekdays between the hours of 8am - 6pm.

Main duties of the job

Working under direct supervision of the GPs and strictly in accordance with the specific practice guidelines and protocols.

Duties are varied, some examples as below:

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by nursing staff and GPs
  • Cervical Screening
  • Blood Pressure
  • ECGs
  • Phlebotomy
  • Ear Syringing
  • Routine Immunisations including children
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs etc
  • Long term chronic condition reviews and monitoring

About us

Hetton Group Practice is a forward thinking and innovative practice based in Hetton le Hole. We are looking for someone who has experience, preferably in a GP practice setting.

We are a single site practice with approx. 11700 patients.

The partnership consists of five GP's who are supported by three salaried GPs, one ANP, two Practice Nurses, three HCA's and an brilliant administration team.

Hetton Group Practice is a training practice for GP Registrars and also take medical students from both Sunderland and Newcastle university.

The practice clinical system is Emis Web.

Job Summary:

The Practice Nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of Practice.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a high standard of nursing care and health promotion to the practice patients.

He/she will work autonomously and in collaboration with other members of the health care team in all facets of health promotion, managing and treating short and long term conditions and monitoring progress and treatment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Key member in the team effort to achieve QOF targets, GMS objectives and QP services.
  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by nursing staff and GPs
  • Cytology
  • Wound care / ulcer care / Doppler experience
  • Removal of Sutures
  • Urinalysis
  • Blood Pressure
  • Travel Vaccination Experience an advantage
  • ECGs
  • Venepuncture
  • Nebulising
  • Ear syringing
  • Routine Immunisations including children
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Experience in Diabetes/Coronary Heart Disease and Asthma management and other long term conditions
  • Sexual health and womens health to include cervical screening
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to other members of nursing team or GPs as appropriate

Other tasks will include:

  • Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
  • A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks and support other colleagues in their work.
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
