Job summary

North Kensington Medical Centre is a small friendly training practice with 5200 patients in West London (between Ladbroke Grove and Latimer Road). We have a full complement of clinical staff who delivers a wide range of primary care services.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Health Care Assistant to join our team for 16 hours a week.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Main duties of the job

v Phlebotomy

v New patient health checks

v NHS health checks

v Contribute towards learning disability health checks

v ECG recording

v Blood pressure monitoring

v Hypertension reviews

v Flu vaccinations under PSD

v B12, Shingles, pneumococcal vaccination under PSD

v Simple dressings

v Compression bandaging

v Urinalysis

v Chaperoning

v Preparation and processing of laboratory samples

v Preparing medical equipment by ensuring infection and control procedures are adhered to

v Removal of sutures/clips

v Ensure clinical waste collection runs smoothly, reporting any problems to the Practice nurse lead and ensure that sharps bins are ready for collection

v Working strictly within the guidelines and boundaries that are set, referring to the Practice nurse lead or GP for any clinical decisions that are to be made

v Maintaining a professional attitude at all times towards patients and displaying an understanding and a caring attitude

Job Summary

The HCA will work under the direct supervision of the nurse manager and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.

The HCA will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. - The post will include some administrative duties.

The HCA is responsible for seeing patients with booked appointments for clinical procedures.

Using your own judgment and communication skills to ensure those patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation, are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.

The HCA will liaise closely at all levels within the teams.

To embrace any new ideas with confidence and enthusiasm that will take the practice forward.

v Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms

v To have a thorough knowledge of Practice procedures

v To work in accordance of written protocols

v Maintain stock of patient information leaflets as instructed

v Ordering of health promotion literature as requested/required

v Ordering of clinical supplies and vaccinations to maintain stock levels

v Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

v Carry out regular stock control of medical equipment in consulting and treatment rooms on a weekly basis

v Checking calibration due dates for medical equipment

v Change computer cartridges and paper when required

v Contact helplines for technical support for medical equipment when required Participation in administrative systems in the Practice

v Maintain accurate and timely records, ensuring the clinical system is kept up to date

v A duty to advice Practice nurse lead/managers of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks

v Attend and participate in any practice meetings and TARGET training when required

v Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

v Responsible for own time management

v To assist in seasonal and special projects as requested eg. Flu campaign

v To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as required by the Partners, Nurse Lead or Practice management.
