Job summary
We are pleased to release this exciting opportunity for an experienced Medical Secretary to join our friendly practice and complement our existing secretarial team. The position is ideal for someone to join us from either a Practice base or direct from a hospital. We are a hardworking, rapidly moving, pro-active, high achieving Practice with two sites on the A64 York Road.
We are looking for a candidate to work 15 to 17 hours a week, Monday to Friday who has a good grasp of computer skills as well as sound experience of secretarial work, typing and routine office administration. The ability to work under you own initiative, as well as being part of a team is essential as this is pressured environment. We are looking for the candidate who can demonstrate that they are reliable, competent and have the ability to work in an office efficiently whilst demonstrating absolute patient confidentiality.
You will be able to work with our experienced secretary, demonstrating forward thinking and initiative, secretarial skills and decision-making choices when dealing with patients. Your role is integral to contributing to the safe and smooth running of the Practice.
Knowledge of SystmOne clinical system is essential as would a broad understanding of the referral system too.
Main duties of the job
Deal with the daily incoming and outgoing correspondence, letters and GPs dictated letters.
Create Referrals for patients.
Set up and chase patient hospital and practice appointments.
Authorisation of information to DVLA, Benefits Office, Parking Badge Permits and Bus Passes.
Notification letters for Patient Referrals to Consultants within the NHS and Privately.
Write requesting Patient Authorisation to forward on their medical notes to solicitors, Police
Authority, CICA etc.
Correspondence with solicitors dealing with patients accident claim forms.
Photocopy Patient medical records as requested.
Arrange and co-ordinate the Choose and Book system for patients being referred.

Observe all procedures laid out by The Practice, such as COSHH, PAT Testing, RIDDOR,
Manual Handling and VDU Usage.
Know how to react to the Panic Alarm system installed in all areas of the Medical Centre.
