If so, we would love to hear from you as we have a vacancy for a prescription clerk to join our team.We are looking to recruit an experienced Prescriptions Clerk to join our team.

To thrive in this role you will enjoy utilising your exceptional organisational and prioritising skills, combined with excellent attention to detail. Problem solving on a day to day basis around issues relating to your work, you will also enjoy working closely as a team to achieve objectives and ensure that your prescription workload is managed in a timely manner.

Experience of working in a GP practice or a pharmacy setting would be preferred.

Main duties of the job

Relevant training will be provided to the successful candidate.

The Prescription Clerk provides support to our Clinicians in the receipt and preparation of repeat prescriptions for our patients and works very closely with Pharmacy and Administrative teams.

You will be the main point of contact for enquiries about prescriptions from patients and community pharmacies. As the main contact for enquiries, a good telephone manner and excellent communication skills are essential.

The Prescriptions Clerk is a member of the administration and clerical team, assisting in the repeat prescription process. The post holder must be flexible and able to support duties of other members of the administrative team.

Flexibility to work additional hours or different shifts to provide absence relief for colleagues.

The post holder may be asked to undertake additional duties within their competence.

Lordswood Group is a large Practice with 26,000 patients; 7 Partners, 11 Salaried GPs, 5 Nurses, 2 HCA's, 3 Phlebotomists, 4 Pharmacists, 6 Prescriptions Clerks, 4 Secretaries and 21 Reception and Administration staff.

We offer a competitive salary together with 4 weeks annual leave (rising by one day per year of service up to 5 weeks after 5 years service) plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part time).

  • The role is to provide support to our clinical team in the management of repeat prescribing and medication monitoring.
  • Respond to enquiries from patients and pharmacies in a courteous, timely and efficient manner, by telephone, letter and email, occasionally face to face and maintain precise records of the communications.
  • Delivering an efficient repeat prescription service and ensuring service targets are met and errors are minimised.
  • Liaise with pharmacies on the supply of prescribed drugs, alert clinicians of any supply issues and forward information on the recommended alternatives.
  • Expedite urgent prescriptions to help ensure a safe and responsive service for our patients.
  • Provide an efficient administration service as part of a team to ensure the smooth running of the prescription support to our clinicians.
  • Ensure you are keeping patient information updated and that patient information is secure and kept confidential at all times.
  • Bring any queries to the attention of the relevant clinician, to include under and over usage.
  • Build good working relationships with local pharmacies to help enable our prescription service.
  • Escalate any problems to your line manager or practice manager.
  • Supporting the audit and review of relevant monitoring required for medicines
  • Handling telephone enquiries and accepting messages for GPs and pharmacists
  • In putting computer data for repeat prescriptions
  • Setting up and actioning tasks to support clinicians in relation to prescription issues
  • Arranging annual and routine monitoring for patients in relation to their medications and health conditions

There may be some reception duties involving an element of administrative work as follows:

  • Assist with the scanning process of relevant letters and reports into patients records.
  • Undertake computer searches and issue recall letters to patients identified as part of the Practices procedures in preventative health care.

  • Act always in a way to protect the confidentiality of patients and maintain the integrity of the patient and health carer relationship
  • Demonstrate at all times excellent communication skills

  • Always be aware of own limitations and do not carry out any task or procedure that is beyond the Prescription Clerk competence

From the nature of the work involved, there are times when the post holder will have to work beyond their normal finish times and also work additional hours to provide absence relief for colleagues.
