Job summary
We are seeking a caring and driven Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our welcoming and supportive General Practice team. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering excellent patient care while supporting the clinical team in the smooth running of the practice.
Working closely with our nursing team and GPs, you will perform a variety of clinical duties. This position is ideal for candidates with prior HCA experience, particularly in primary care or community health, who are enthusiastic, organised, and committed to making a positive impact on patients lives.
This is a permanent role offering 20 to 30 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the nursing team in all aspects of their clinical and administrative activities, both within the surgery and during patient home visits.
Working alongside the administrative team, the post holder should ensure that all interactions between patients, visitors, and the practice team are conducted to the highest possible standards.

Ireland Wood and Horsforth Medical Practice is a two-site GP practice in North-West Leeds. With a registered patient list of 28,000, it is one of the largest practices in the area. The post holder is responsible for working as a member of the Nursing Team in all aspects of their clinical and administrative activities, both in the surgeries and patients’ homes, where appropriate. Together with the Administrative Team, the post holder should ensure that the interactions between patients and other visitors to the Practice and Practice Team are to the standards agreed.
- Provide a personal resource and point of communication between the patient and the practice, both in the waiting area and during doctor/nurse/patient consultations.
- Assist patients in their usage of practice equipment and the collection of specimens.
- Act as a chaperone support if required by doctors/nurses.
- Maintain, store and retrieve records both manual and computerised.
- Provide clerical support for the Nursing Team including recording clinical information, preparation of appointment list and preparing and sending appointment letters.
- Receive and transmit information on the telephone to the agreed practice standard, with particular reference to confidentiality.

- Simple dressings (desirable)
- Vaccinations B12/Flu (desirable)
