We are looking to recruit a Healthcare Assistant / Phlebotomist to join our friendly team.

Salary Depending on experience

Membership of the NHS pension scheme

Part-time 25 hours per week

Working Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 1:00pm.

Main duties of the job

To support the practice in the delivery of clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice multi disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to registered patients of the practice.

The Healthcare Assistant / Phlebotomist will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education while also supporting the administrative team on an as required basis.

Park Surgery is based at 19 Hills, Health & Well-Being Centre and is a busy single site practice with a stable list size of approximately 6500 patients. You will work alongside an excellent clinical team comprising of 3 GP Partners, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Physician Associate, 2 Pharmacists, 1 Paramedic and an excellent reception and administrative team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant / Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions
  • Assist in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and wellbeing
  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Support with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine and 24 hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and suture removal
  • Support the practice with the management of chronic disease clinics, to include diabetic reviews and foot check
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • Undertake venepuncture
  • Administer adult flu, pneumococcal, COVID, RSV & Shingles vaccinations etc (If trained/Willing to train).
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Provide support during minor operations as required
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Ensure vaccine, cold chain storage monitoring and recording of fridges and are cleaned routinely in accordance with guidance
  • Maintaining and re ordering of stock and vaccines alongside Lead Practice Nurse.
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with practice policy
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
  • Ensure a timely recall of patients for ongoing care including disease management reviews
  • To support monitoring and actioning of test results
  • Actioning of read coding and summarising medical records
  • Other clinical tasks as required, within your scope
  • Other admin tasks as required, within your scope

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Healthcare Assistant may be requested to:

  • Participate in practice audit as directed
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
  • Support and participate in shared learning within the practice.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working
  • towards gaining equivalent level
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Experience of working with the general public
