Job responsibilities
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by nursing staff and GPs
- New patient health checks
- Provide wound care assessment and treatment within sphere of competence and with supervision of the Practice
- ECG recording, blood pressure (including 24hr BP monitor), glucometer and urine tests
- Long term condition reviews
- Perform venepuncture
- Deliver ear care to patient within guidelines
- Deliver opportunistic promotion and guidance to patient in relation to smoking, diet exercise, sexual health and other health initiatives
- Work in conjunction with the Practice Nurse to provide support to patients wishing to undertake smoking cessation
- Smoking cessation
- B12 injections
- Seasonal Flu and COVID Vaccinations as appropriate
- Pneumonia Vaccinations as appropriate
- Shingles Vaccinations as appropriate
- Chaperoning duties
- Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
- Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
- Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions
- Assist clinical staff in minor surgical procedure including coil fittings
- Prioritise workload and intervene appropriately to treat emergency situations
- Apply infection control measures in accordance with local and national guidelines
- Ensure that stock levels of medical supplies and drugs are rotated and maintained at agreed levels
- Document data on the computer system using READ codes to ensure accurate retrieval of information for monitoring and audit purpose
- Document all surgery and telephone consultations with patients
- Assist admin and nursing team in the ordering of medical supplies and the in maintaining of surgery stock controls
- Assist the with the annual equipment check
- Undertake any other clinical administration requested by the Practice Nurses, Practice Manager or GPs
- Priorities own workload and ensure effective time management
- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being including advice related to Weight, Diet, Physical activity, Smoking, Alcohol and substance misuse
- Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
- Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
- Assist in spirometry
- Assisting with Dementia Reviews
- Assisting with and undertaking memory clinic referral assessments
- Assisting with and undertaking Falls Assessments
- Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
- Undertaking Visits to housebound patient if required to assist in monitoring well being
- Participate in the provision of Extended Hours Access as required by the Practice in accordance with the terms of the GP Contract and associated Enhanced services which may vary from time to time.
- To work with the Practice to ensure that the service we provide meets the Fundamental Standards of Care expected by the Care Quality Commission
- To work with the Practice to ensure that the services we provide to people are safe, effective, compassionate and of a high quality and where it is identified by the Practice that they are not work with the Practice to improve the service.
