Job summary

Working under the direct supervision of the Lead Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by nursing staff and GPs

New patient health checks

ECG recording

Blood pressure (including 24hr BP monitor)

Flu, COVID, Pneumonia, Shingles and B12 vaccinations as appropriate

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being including advice related to Weight, Diet, Physical activity, Smoking, Alcohol and substance misuse

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with Dementia Reviews, memory clinic referrals and falls assessments

Undertaking visits to housebound patient if required to assist in monitoring well being

Simple dressings

To work with the Practice to ensure that the services we provide to people are safe, effective, compassionate, of a high quality and meet the Care Quality Commission standards.

About us

The Long Melford Practice is based in the historic wool town of Long Melford in Suffolk. We have approximately 9500 patient and use SystmOne clinical system across two sites including Lavenham. The Practice is open to patients between 08:00 am and 18:30 Mondays to Fridays.

Our practice is made up of multiple staff consisting of GPs, nurses, reception/care navigators, clinical administrators and dispensary staff who provide services to our patients.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant who will complement our existing team and help us to provide safe and efficient services to our patients.

Upon appointing a suitable candidate a DBS check will be required.
