Job summary

We are recruiting for a Medical Secretary to join our friendly GP surgery team. We are offering a part time role of 3 shifts per week, up to 18 to 20 hours. We seek a proactive, organised individual with previous secretarial or senior administrator experience. Previous experience of working in a GP practice or for the NHS is desirable as is experience of working with the public. The role does require flexibility to work core shifts and be available for cover shifts to cover for annual leave within the team. The closing date for applications is end of the day on Monday 2nd March. Interviews will be in early to mid March.

Main duties of the job

The role involves a range of duties including:

Typing letters, reports and associated documentation

Processing referrals using the electronic referral system

Actioning incoming emails

Liaising with external agencies, such as hospitals and community services, to ensure referrals are processed efficiently

Managing all enquiries in an effective, timely manner

Scanning documentation and coding data on the clinical system

Processing requests for information i.e. SARs, insurance letters

Answering incoming calls and dealing with callers' requests appropriately

We are a two site GP practice in Watlington and Chalgrove, Oxfordshire. We serve a patient population of approximately 8000 patients. We work to provide effective healthcare services for our patients in an environment that is caring and accessible.
