Bridges Medical Practice

Community Tobacco Dependency Nurse

The closing date is 07 November 2025

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to embed treatment of tobacco dependency into the Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) Programme across Newcastle Gateshead. The TLHC programme targets those people most at risk of lung cancer, inviting them to a unique screening opportunity if they have ever, or currently smoke, and are between 55-75 years old. Emerging evidence suggests that this is an ideal opportunity to systematically identity and treat tobacco dependency for those still using tobacco at the time of screening. This role will lead the development and embedding of an enhanced treatment offer across Newcastle-Gateshead, with the aim of sharing learning across the whole North East and North Cumbria footprint.

Main duties of the job

The Community Tobacco Dependency Nurse role will include service development, collaboration with partners across the NENC Integrated Care System, NHS and the Local Authority, and embedding of a treatment pathway into the existing TLHC approach. This will involve the delivery of training, behaviour change interventions and regular progress updates, as well as line management of a small team of specialist community tobacco dependency treatment advisors.
