Job summary

We are looking for a permanent Salaried GP here at Lydden help provide holistic, patient centred continuity of care for our patients.

We operate a total triage model: our doctor led triage team of Care Navigators triages all requests for clinical assistance in order to direct patients to the most appropriate clinician within the correct timeframe.

Main duties of the job

You need to be an enthusiastic, passionate team player who embodies patient-centred care, possesses a strong work ethic, is committed to forward-thinking initiatives, and thrives in a collaborative team environment.

This will be for 4 or 5 sessions a week working over 3 days. The successful candidate will ideally need to be available from April 2026

Terms and conditions will be in line with the BMA.

Salary is dependent on experience.

About us

Lydden Surgery is a forward thinking, friendly and well established practice which moved from River to our current purpose built premises in the village of Lydden in October 2011. We are a rural dispensing practice.

Our diverse multidisciplinary practice team comprises: General Practitioners, Practice Nurses, two Heath Care Assistants, Dispensers, Medical Secretaries, Administrators and Receptionists. We are proud to be a Training Practice both for training doctors and trainee GPs: we are committed to fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals.

We offer a range of services including home visits for housebound patients who cannot attend the practice, a range of nursing clinics and services such as chronic disease management, blood tests, ECGs, dressings, blood pressure testing, warfarin clinics, hypertension clinics and NHS health checks. Our clinical system is EMIS web

We provide an extended range of Enhanced Services offering the potential to be involved and/or develop specialist clinical skills.

We are supported by the Primary Care Network Social Prescribers, First Contact Physiotherapy and Clinical Pharmacist Team.The Clinical team are supported by a well-led and trained administrative team whose sole focus is to minimise the administrative burdens on clinicians whilst optimising patient care.

The practice participates in the PCN Patient Participation group. We have dispensing services, online appointment booking and electronic transfer of prescriptions.

Primary key responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP in delivering health services.

a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population

b. Work within our total triage system alongside the Care Navigators to triage patient requests for help ensuring the most appropriate disposition for care is given.

c. The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract

d. To clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising Practice and any other local guidelines

e. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance. Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions

f. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care

g. Effective management of long-term conditions

h. To support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care

i. Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks

j. Review medications following the appropriate policies, NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways

k. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance

l. Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload

m. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process

n. Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans

o. Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice

p. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF

c. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
