Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities:

Delivering exceptional healthcare to patients, diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions

Collaborating within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure comprehensive, co-ordinated and high quality patient care

Participating in clinical meetings, case discussions, and continuous professional development activities

Adhering to best practice guidelines, ethical standards and regulatory requirements

Contributing to quality improvement initiatives and promoting a culture of excellence

Flexibility to provide a mix of telephone and face to face patient appointments

Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities:

In accordance with the practice timetable, the post-holder will undertake a variety of duties, including;

face to face consultations, telephone consultations and answering queries

visiting patients at home

checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries relating to medicines management

dealing with paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care professionals

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols

Providing counselling and health education

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

Collecting data for audit purposes

Prescribing in accordance with the local prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities within the organisation:

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting

Using appropriate templates and protocols to ensure the correct summarising, recording and read coding of patient records

Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

  • MRCGP qualification or equivalent
  • GMC registration and license to practice in the UK
  • Representation with a recognised medical defence organisation
  • Registered on a medical performers list
  • Valid UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Postgraduate training and relevant experience in a clinical specialty
  • GP Trainer

  • Strong clinical skills and a commitment to evidence-based practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
