Job summary

Carnon Downs Surgery is looking for a receptionist to join our friendly team (variable hours). This is a fantastic opportunity for a friendly, dynamic individual to enjoy a satisfying role in an NHS general practice. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who is caring and committed to providing positive patient support. We pride ourselves on our excellent personalised patient care and our supportive and caring environment for our team. We have a growing registration of 6,000+ patients and we are actively involved in our community, in GP training and in clinical commissioning. We are well organised, enjoy an excellent reputation and score highly on all external quality markers.

Our working week is currently Monday to Friday however overtime hours are available to cover colleagues. Training and development commensurate with the post will be ongoing to aid in your Continued Personal Development.

Candidates do not need previous experience but this will be an advantage, primarily we are looking for an organised individual who will be able to provide an excellent first point of contact for our patients. Salary will be dependent on experience. NHS Pension.

The closing date is 20/12/24 but we reserve the right to close the application process early if we receive sufficient applications.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the front facing reception team providing phone and reception desk cover for patients calling or visiting the practice.

Attending our Dispensary window and serving patients collecting prescriptions.

Undertaking reception administration duties such as actioning tasks from the clinical team, helping with registration/deductions of patients, sorting of new patient notes and coordination of clinic changes etc.

Support with managing waiting lists and arranging appointments.

Liaising with the District Nursing Team and other attached staff.

About us

Carnon Downs Surgery is a small GP surgery in the village of Carnon Downs, a short distance from Truro.

We have approximately 35 staff and we are working proactively with our linked practices of Chacewater, St Agnes and Perranporth who are part of our Primary Care Network, Coastal PCN.

Job responsibilities

*Manage telephone calls and visitors into the practice and make sure these are handled professionally and efficiently.

*Book appointments and recalls ensuring sufficient information is recorded to retrieve relevant medical record.

*Ensure efficiency of appointment systems and monitor flow of patients into consulting and treatment rooms.

*Ensure that patients who need an urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.

*Explain practice requirements and the facilities we have to offer to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensuring all formal procedures are completed.

*Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors.

*Advise of private service charges, accept payment and issue receipts for same

*In conjunction with the dispensary ensure that requests for prescriptions are actioned where possible within 48 hours.

*Issue medication to patients, checking items of medication against prescription and accepting payment where appropriate. Ensure entitlement of all patients claiming exemption is current.

*Enter requests and information for Midwives, District Nurses, Health Visitors, CPN's, Counsellors, *Physiotherapist etc. in relevant logs.

*Action requests for ambulance transportation and record details appropriately.
