As a small practice we recognise the increasing role and importance of the Practice Nurse in delivering primary health care services. The Primary Care landscape will continue to change, and we are looking for someone with the flexibility and enthusiasm to embrace new initiatives as they come along and acquire new skills.
This is an opportunity to work as part of the primary healthcare team providing high quality care to the patients of Nettlebed Practice, including treatment, screening, preventative care, and education.
The vacancy is for 3 days per week (Mon, Tues, Thurs, or Fri) + cover shifts.

Main duties of the job
Ideally applicants should be skilled in conducting a wide range of services including standard health checks e.g. blood pressure etc, wound dressing, chronic disease management (asthma, COPD, Diabetes), minor illness, immunisation, blood tests etc.

JOB TITLE: PRACTICE NURSE
REPORTS TO: THE PARTNERS (Clinically)
THE PRACTICE MANAGER (Administratively)
Job Summary:
To work as part of the primary healthcare team providing high quality care to the patients of Nettlebed Practice, including treatment, screening, preventative care, and education.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Role
The exact responsibilities will depend on the profile and experience of the person employed, and may include the following, as appropriate.
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver safe and high-quality care.
Carry out treatment duties, including phlebotomy, suture/clip removal/blood pressure checks.
Provide a holistic evidence-based approach to wound management and the implementation of wound care in line with local formulary.
Offer leg ulcer management, including applying compression bandaging & Doppler Studies on completion of relevant training.
Perform ECGs
Participate in asthma & COPD reviews.
Carry out basic diabetes checks.
Promote and deliver the Cervical Cytology programme.
Administer both adult & childrens immunisations following National & Local policy.
Perform general health/NHS reviews and offering health advice/referrals.
Assist GPs with minor surgery.
Offer comprehensive Travel advice and vaccinations under Patient Group or Patient Specific Directions when appropriate to do so (currently not being offered routinely to patients 2023)
Care Management and Health Improvement
Communicate effectively with other team members, patients, and their carers.
Contribute to local and national practice targets clinical remit such as QOF, prescribing incentive scheme, National benchmarking.
Involvement in chronic disease management including Diabetes, Respiratory & Hypertension reviews, offering advice and support where indicated.
Monitor and meet care outcomes against standards and recommend or initiate changes as necessary.
Participate in health screening programmes and promoting health improvement and disease prevention.
Educational Role
Ensure that clinical nursing activities remain evidence based and up to date with published literature.
Promote a learning environment for patients, nurses, and other health professionals.
Critically analyse own areas of competency and limitations, recognising the need for further study/updates, and attending appropriate training sessions
Be aware of current legislative and updated guidance that will influence any care given.
Additional Nursing Tasks
Maintain general tidiness & cleanliness of clinical areas and equipment.
Participate in stocking up and rotation of items.
Ordering vaccinations and ensuring continuity of the Cold Chain
Participate in administrative systems within the practice.
Reporting any potential problems or errors that occur

Maintain professional registration with the NMC.
Participate in continuing professional development opportunities to ensure that up to date evidence-based knowledge and competence in all aspects of the role is maintained.
Work within the latest NMC Code of Professional Conduct to provide a high standard of care and conduct at all times.
Record accurate consultation data in patient records in accordance with the latest NMC guidance and other pertinent standards, and respect patient confidentiality at all times.
Work collaboratively with colleagues within and external to the practice.
