Job summary

Newsome Surgery is a small GP Practice in Huddersfield with approximately 6,000 patients. We are looking to recruit a new part-time receptionist/administrator to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team providing support in a Primary Health Care setting. You will support patients and will always demonstrating a professional disposition.

Experience is preferred however full training will be provided, therefore if you have the right skills and characteristics for the role please don't let that hold you off applying.

If you like working with the public or love to help people this will definately be a role suitable for you.

Main duties of the job

Receiving calls and assisting with direct face to face patient enquiries are predominant parts of this role, therefore this will be very suited to people with previous customer facing roles.

Day to day varies from booking appointments, processing medication requests, dealing with patients who want to register at the practice and dealing with all patients general enquiries, signposting them to the most appropriate appointment or service.

Good communication skills are vital for the role and basic IT skills will be needed.

About us

We are a friendly team and all strive to provide the best possible care and support for our patients. We have a team including GP's, Practice Nurse, Nurse Associate, Healthcare Assistants, reception, administration and secretarial staff.

We are part of Viaduct PCN so also work closely with 6 other GP Practices and through this has access to other services for our patients such as social prescribers, support from in-house pharmacists and first contact practitioners.

We all strive to provide the best possible care for our patients and have a great team ethose to work together to accomplish this.

Job Summary:

You will be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking team providing support in a Primary Health Care setting. You will be providing support to all patients and always demonstrating a professional disposition.

Receiving calls and assisting with direct face to face patient enquiries are predominant parts of this role. To be focussed on ensuring that, the appropriate service is maintained within the healthcare environment. A professional and courteous approach at all times needs to be effective.

To ensure reception; administration duties and responsibilities within the Practices are carried out accurately and in a timely fashion adhering to the guidelines and policies.

The Practice Manager will be responsible for your training and day to day support.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To provide General Medical Services to patients; use of SystmOne [patient health record]; booking of appointments; dealing with queries and handling queries; requests for prescriptions; the opening and distribution of internal and external post and other office tasks.
  • To deal with telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others and taking messages accurately and within a timely manner
  • Professional customer service skills at all times when communicating with patients; visitors and all staff
  • Handling specimens and ensuring the appropriate forms have been completed accurately
  • It is essential to always have a confidential manner
  • To establish and maintain filing and administrative systems so that written or computer information is easily accessible and secure
  • To arrange ambulances as required
  • Scanning of patient clinic letters
  • Opening and closure of building
  • Other duties may be required if requested by management staff

The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:

  • Communicate effectively with other team members.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and carers.
  • Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.
