Main duties of the job
To care for Practice
patients, including the provision of treatment, preventative care, screening, immunisations
and patient education. At all times
demonstrating a working knowledge of the conduct and standards required of a
Nurse, as required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Harborne Medical Practice is a
lively, modern and well established teaching practice in the centre of
Harborne. As well as excellent general
practice and nursing provision, our services also include COVID vaccine
provision, hub, phlebotomy and minor
surgery along with specialist clinics for conditions such as asthma and
diabetes, to name but a few. We are part of the Harborne PCN and have a
fantastic family-friendly staff team consisting of 7 partners, 5 salaried GPs,
30 administrative, secretarial and nursing staff and have approximately 16,000
patients on our list. Our great clinical
team is supported by a number of allied health professionals, including
Paramedics, GP Assistants, Physiotherapists and Pharmacy Technicians.
Our lovely practice has expanded in
the last few years, with the addition of 8 clinical spaces and an IT suite and
the practice can now offer 20 clinical rooms. We are known for our modern,

Providing assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice
Following agreed protocols, provide general practice nursing treatments to patients alongside other clinical colleagues, within skill set and competency.
Treatments may include (not exhaustive): Dietary advice, blood pressure checks, urinalysis, dressings, ECG, phlebotomy, routine injections, contraception, minor injuries, routine immunisations and vaccinations, removal of sutures / clips, baby immunisations, assisting with the fitting of IUCD / IUS, first registration checks, etc.
Organise and coordinate the provision of nursing services for the practice to include the delegation of duties to other members of the practice nurse team as appropriate
Provide general and specific health screenings and advice to practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to other clinicians as necessary.
Complete chronic health condition clinics (Diabetic, COPD, Asthma, Heart, Kidney and Liver disease, etc.) including providing testing, diagnostic, health advice and management advice of such conditions.
Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures Undertake the collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc., and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment so used.
Perform any investigatory procedures requested by other clinicians within scope of role.
Administrative and professional responsibilities Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team.
Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on the clinical computer system as appropriate.
Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice.
Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.
Assist in the formulation of Practice philosophy, strategy and policy and develop appropriate protocols.
Student/staff education / induction / training - Participate in the education, induction and training of students / new staff where agreed, within scope of role.
Liaison
- Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the Practice, with appropriate regard to confidentiality.

- Conduct self in a manner in keeping with practice Confidentiality policy.
