Job summary
The Dicconson Group Practice is looking to recruit an
experienced, organised and motivated Medical Secretary to join our friendly and
supportive team.
This is an important role within the practice, providing a
comprehensive secretarial and administrative service to our GP Partners and
clinical team. The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring
referrals, clinical correspondence and medical documentation are processed
accurately and efficiently to support safe patient care.
We are a busy, well-established town centre practice serving
approximately 9,650 patients, with a strong multidisciplinary team and a
commitment to delivering high-quality care.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Type and format dictated letters via Lexacom system
- Drafting, editing and formatting documents and reports
- Sending referrals and following up on outstanding or rejected referrals
- Chase appointments and expedite when clinically required
- Contact consultants on behalf of GPs regarding patient care or queries.
- Handle patient requests and queries submitted by AMGP
- Manage incoming mail and correspondence from various departments, ensuring timely actin and response.
- Oversee and maintain electronic workflow systems (e-RS)
- Process triage responses, advice and guidance requests, DNAs and rejections
- Log coroners reports and inquest dates in the calendar and amend the on-call rota as needed.
- Handle telephone calls and messages from patients and consultants, prioritising and escalating appropriately.
- Liaise across departments to ensure smooth communication and continuity of care
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient and administrative records in line with NHS policies
- Monitor mailbox
- Managing / prioritising your own workload
The role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise workload effectively in a busy environment.
