Job summary

As a Medical Receptionist/Administrator you are the first contact that any patient or healthcare professional has with the surgery.

You will work within a team of receptionists and your daily activities will vary from answering the phone, direct patient contact and administrative duties. You will be trained to help patients access the most appropriate care be that within the practice or externally.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who enjoys interacting with and helping others. In this role you will be answering telephone, face to face or online queries, finding out what the needs of the patient are and how the GP practice can best help them.

This role can be busy and diverse and we are looking for candidates who would thrive in these situations.

We are looking for people with good IT skills including using email and Word.

We use a clinical system for appointments which you will be trained to use.

About us

Guiseley & Yeadon Medical Practice is a GP surgery based over two sites with a patient population of over 11,000.

We have a large friendly team of Receptionist/Administrative staff who support a diverse clinical team of GPs, nurses, pharmacists and Nurse Practitioners.

Job responsibilities

  • Meet and greet patients, members of the public and visitors to the practice in a friendly and courteous manner.

  • To direct patients to the appropriate professional; signposting

  • Make/cancel appointments for patients, clinical staff and other members of the health care team on the clinical system.

  • Know where to find information on the clinical system, to respond to patients queries in a prompt and professional manner

  • Deal with patients enquiries in relation to results, and book appointments when required

  • Register new patients onto the clinical system in line with practice procedure

  • Answer the telephone to provide safe patient access to the service.

  • Book appointments and recalls ensuring sufficient information is recorded to enable retrieval of the medical record

  • Collect any specimens delivered by patients and ensure they are stored appropriately and collected by the hospital and other services.
