Job summary

We are looking for a motivated person to join our Team to cover holiday and sickness. This will be a zero hour contract with a flexible working pattern.

The candidate ideally would have previous GP Practice experience with the knowledge of the SystmOne computer system. Applicants must have a good educational background, be of smart appearance, and have excellent customer care skills and a pleasant telephone manner. They should be able to multi task in a busy but friendly environment and be able to work under pressure.

Main duties of the job

General telephonist duties

- Booking appointments

- Explaining general procedures, making other appointments and dealing with general queries

- Giving results over phone/passing urgent results to a doctor

- Taking and relaying messages by means of computer for District Nurses, Health Visitors and Midwives and other health authorities

- Dealing appropriately with tasks and notifications to and from doctors, midwives, health visitors and district nurses and other health authorities

- Giving prescriptions to patients, checking status; Printing off list of medications for hospital purpose

- New patients registration checking forms, printing forms etc.

- Receiving and routing patients for appointments on arrival

The performance of any other reasonable duties requested by the Doctors, Practice Manager or Reception Team Leader

- Scanning when necessary

We are a small GP practice with a dedicated team caring for patients in the Great Ayton and local areas. We have two Partners and two salaried GP's and are a training practice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Receive all patients and arrange either an appointment or contact with the relevant clinical staff to ensure that they receive appropriate attention.
  • Attend to routine patient and clinical staff queries, seeking advice from team leaders or medical staff when appropriate.
  • Receive incoming telephone calls and arrange appointments.
  • Receive all visitors and arrange contact with the relevant staff to ensure that they receive appropriate attention.
  • Develop the ability to perform electronic tasks to keep patient records accurate and up to date when required.
  • File all patient records in accordance with practice systems and procedures.
  • Extract patient records when required.
  • Ensure change of patient's details correctly inputted into the computer and the notes are amended accordingly.
  • Scan patient related documentation and attach scanned documents to patients' healthcare records.
  • Carry out administrative tasks in relation to specific clinics.
  • Obtain a working knowledge of the clinical computer system to enable the process of appointments.
  • Develop the ability to fully understand a patients needs/concerns so that they can be dealt with efficiently and courteously.
  • Develop the ability to identify patient needs and meet their expectations.
  • Maintain a pleasant tidy and safe reception area to benefit patients and comply with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Undertake other appropriate duties consistent with the nature and grading of the post which may be allocated, as the situation dictates, by the Reception Supervisors, Practice Manager or the Partners
