Job summary
WellBN is an award winning, innovative practice where we endeavour to use creativity and the arts to help our patients achieve wellbeing. We run a year-long programme for patients with complex trauma, and have a special interest in providing services to communities who have historically experienced barriers to accessing healthcare. We have more than 600 patients who identify as Trans/Non-Binary/intersex (TNBI) and we are looking for an experienced HCA with lived experience to join our friendly team to provide a dedicated service to this community.
Main duties of the job
This role requires a highly skilled HCA to undertake HCA duties including venepuncture, immunisations, ear irrigation, health promotion, wound management, long-term condition management etc. Previous primary care experience is required, and training will be provided to support the delivery of specialist health checks.

Job responsibilities
- To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
- The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
- Undertake new patient health checks
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
- Act as a chaperone as required
- When trained, administer flu vaccinations
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Provide support during minor operations as required
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
- Undertake venepuncture
- When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse
- Carry out ECGs as requested

Essential
- To have completed or at least started the HCA Care Certificate.
Desirable
- Healthcare qualification or equivalent level
- Phlebotomy certification

- 6 months relevant experience working in a primary care environment in the last 2 years
- Experience of working with the general public
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
