Job summary

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, caring, motivated, calm, responsible and professional Healthcare Assistant who has phlebotomy skills. We are wanting to employ a person who has excellent communication skills and can work as a team player in our busy health care clinic at Stockton Heath Medical Centre.

Hours 15/20 hrs per week usually in a morning

Main duties of the job

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide reassurance and support to patients and family/carers.

Be patient centred and provide a holistic service.

To support patients and relatives who are unwell or have varying health needs, and to recognise when advice should be sort from qualified nursing or medical staff.

To promote good working practice within the clinical area.

Contribute to promotion of good health and participate in health education.

To maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, and the maintenance of accurate record keeping.

To be able to process other specimens that are required to be sent to the local laboratory as per practice policy.

We are a friendly Practice, who are looking to recruit one or more enthusiastic and committed Health Care Assistants to join our team.

We are a large teaching Practice with a highly skilled team of both clinical and administrative staff. The Practice has invested in the training of our staff at all levels to meet the demands of a busy General Practice.

We pull together as a team, we help each other out when we are busy, and we believe in a partnership where we all play an equal role and support each other.

Job responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

To be a member of the Practice-based Nursing and Clerical Team; providing high quality care to the Practice population. Supervised by members of the Nursing, Medical and Clerical teams, at all times working to your Job Description and within your capabilities.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Training and development

You will be closely monitored by relevant Nursing, Medical and Clerical staff throughout your employment. You will have an identified Mentor. You will be expected to complete e-learning modules appropriate for your role. You will be expected to attend any relevant training course.

You will carry out your duties with regard to Protocols and Guidelines in use at the Medical Centre.

CLINICAL DUTIES

Performance of Clinical Duties are dependent on your aptitude and are STRICTLY at the discretion of yourself and the Practice.

Phlebotomy

  • Report all matters pertaining to patients care changes in condition/circumstances to a relevant member of the Nursing or Medical Team as a matter of priority and ensure that a document record is kept.

  • Ensure that Clinical rooms are at all times kept in a clean and orderly manner and that relevant equipment is ready for use by Nursing and Medical staff during Clinic Sessions.

  • General housekeeping of Doctors rooms tidying and replenishing stocks of clinical items.

  • Carry out ECGs on patients once trained.

  • Blood pressure and pulse checks once trained

  • Any QOF/LES DES tasks appropriate to role.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND RECORD KEEPING

You will act at all times with regard to the confidentiality and sensitivity of issues to do with patients, their care and treatment.

All contacts that you have with patients must be recorded.

GENERAL AND CLERICAL DUTIES

Performance of Clerical Duties are dependent on your aptitude and are STRICTLY at the discretion of yourself and the Practice.

Carry out relevant Clinical and Reception duties as required in relation to Nursing Services, eg. Answering the telephone, making appointments, entering data on the computer system, carry out computer searches and summarise patients notes.

Participate in audit as required, eg. Note sampling, data input and information gathering.

To function as an integral part of a developing Team.

Attend relevant meetings as required.

Have knowledge of and act at all times within the boundaries of Health and Safety legislation and Data Protection Acts.

Have a basic understanding of the Equal Opportunities policy.

ADMINISTRATIVE

Report sickness or absence and return to work following these to the Practice Manager/Nurse Support Worker.

Report accidents to patients or self which occur whilst on duty and complete an Accident Report Form and give to Practice Manager.

Complete Annual Leave Request Form and pass to Practice Manager/Nurse Support Worker for approval.
