Job summary
We are an innovative and caring, teaching and training PMS practice aiming to provide high quality care for an inner city area which has a vibrant and markedly diverse population, facing many of the exciting challenges and interests associated with health issues related to poverty, migrant health, multi-morbidity and varying culture and ethnicity. You will have the opportunity to work with the homeless service in Birmingham. We are looking for a permanent 6 session salaried GP to join our team and to bring with them a good team spirit and willingness to contribute to the delivery of care.
Main duties of the job

- The post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
- In accordance with the rota, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including consultations and emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, patient, referral letters NHS/private, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner;
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation;
- Recording clear and contemporaneous IT based consultation notes;
Audit work;
- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible);
- Prescribing in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines.
About us
The practice has been in the Cape Hill area of Smethwick for over 50 years. It has grown into a GP partnership and developed to become one of the most comprehensive primary health care organisations in greater Birmingham. The practice moved to a purpose-built health centre in 2001 which was further extended to accommodate the growing team. We are part of the Birmingham Cross City Clinical Commissioning Group. The practice has approximately 12,100 patients with a team of 6 partners, 4 part time salaried GPs, nursing team with ANPs, NPs, PNs and HCAs, link worker and chaplain, an administrative team and IT support. We are an innovative and caring teaching practice which is very in tune with the local needs and responsive to its needs. Holistic care is an important part of the practices ethos, we have link workers who care for the social aspects of patients lives, and a chaplain who see patients of all faiths and no faith to help with their spiritual and cultural needs through crises.
