    • Review incoming clinical documents, correspondence, and reports for relevant patient information
    • Accurately code clinical information using Read (SNOMED) codes in line with agreed practice protocols
    • Identify and act on any clinical information requiring attention or follow-up by a GP or any other relevant clinician.
    • Manage coding queries from clinicians and the wider administrative team
    • Provide general administrative support and undertake ad hoc tasks as required

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Clinical Coder to join our administrative team. This is a critical role supporting the clinicians by ensuring that all patients documentation is accurately summarised and appropriately coded within the patients electronic health record.

The ideal candidate will be methodical, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. Previous coding or summarising experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

  • Proven ability to adapt to change we are constantly improving and evolving our ways of working and new technologies. You need a proven background of adapting to change
  • Proven track record of accurately processing and inputting large volumes of data whilst working to deadlines
  • Proven track record of accurately following a process or protocol provided to you whilst inputting information, be analytical and enjoy working with large volumes of detailed information
  • The ability to sustain high concentration levels for prolonged periods of time
  • A proven dedication to maintaining high standards
  • The ability to follow processes and procedures accurately and efficiently
  • Efficient and accurate keyboard skills
  • Competent in the use of PC based technologies including Microsoft Outlook, Word.
  • Full training will be given for in-house systems
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality in the workplace and able to follow data protection policies and guidelines
  • Great communication skills, face to face, on the phone and via e-mail

  • Knowledge of medical terminology is advantageous
  • A background in notes summarising (clinical or non-clinical)
  • Previous experience of EMIS clinical system
