Main duties of the job
We would ideally like to employ someone who has general practice nurse experience, however we can provide mentorship and support for the ideal candidate.
The job role will include
General treatment room duties,
venepuncture,
Child and adult immunisations,
Travel immunisations and advice,
Wound care,
Cervical cytology
Provision of lifestyle advice, weight, smoking , alcohol, exercise.
Chronic disease management clinics, asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Hyertension. For candidates with appropriate training.
About us
We are a large multicultural practice in Smethwick. We are a teaching and training practice for GPs, Advanced clinical Practitioners, Trainee HCAs and student nurses.
Our nurse team currently consists of 1 Nurse Practitioner, 2 x ANPs in training. 2 x Practice nurses, and 2 x phlebotomists and 1 x Trainee HCA.
The wider team consists of GP Partners, salaried GPs, Pharmacists, Social Prescribers and of course our fantastic admin/reception team.

Job responsibilities
Work in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct including NMC registration is valid
Ensure you comply with requirements for revalidation and maintain the knowledge and skills you need for safe practice
Continue professional development (CPD) to supplement existing knowledge to aid further autonomy within the role
Disseminate updates in current evidence to all in practice, particularly new learning from study
Recognise and work within the limits of your competence
Provide clinical leadership, change management skills, mentoring and support to colleagues and students.
Work with GP colleagues and Nursing Team to deliver services in line with current evidence e.g. NICE, Research, identifying resource implications to practice/line manager.
Contribute to the development of policies / protocols / guidelines within the practice and ensure compliance.
Work collaboratively within the Practice and across professional boundaries, networking and building relationships to streamline care pathways using a patient centred approach that breaks down barriers and crosses boundaries between Acute Care, Community services, Health and Social Care Services to meet the needs of patients
CLINICAL
Assist the Practice team to help deliver effective implementation of management of patients with chronic diseases e.g. initiate insulin, diabetic reviews, respiratory reviews etc
Aid the practice team with implementation of new initiatives in the delivery of chronic disease management services.
Assist in mentorship and assessment of competencies for the Nursing team and Student Nurses to help develop skills.
Assist and perform routine tasks as follows (this list is not exhaustive)
venepuncture
wound care management
Immunisations
Travel vaccinations and advice
cervical smears
chaperoning
Doppler assessments
Lifestyle advise and support to change
RESEARCH, AUDIT AND EVALUATION; PRACTICE AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT
Participates/initiate, conduct, analyses and disseminates audit and evaluation findings; implementing changes to improve patient care as required
Participate in research as required in the practice.
Initiate/participate in evaluation of services delivered
Assist in direct provision of service priorities in line with current national service frameworks, government documents and CCG objectives.
COMMUNICATION
Establish and maintain excellent communication pathways with internal and external stakeholders
Use of interpreting services as required for patient care and communications
Encourage patients and their carers to undertake a self-care model.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This is not an exhaustive list of duties and the post holder may be required to undertake other duties, as required, to meet the needs of the service
