Join The Misbourne Practice as a Healthcare Assistant (HCA)

Main duties of the job
The healthcare assistant plays a vital role in supporting clinical services within the practice. While the following outlines the primary duties, additional tasks may be required depending on workload and staffing levels.
- New Patient Health Checks:
- Health Promotion Support:
- Accurately perform and record vital signs including:
- Blood pressure
- Temperature
- Pulse rate
- Pulse oximetry
- Wound Care: Undertake basic dressing changes as directed.
- Chronic Disease Support: Assist with the running and management of chronic disease clinics.
- BMI Checks: Carry out Body Mass Index assessments as instructed.
- Phlebotomy: Qualified in phlebotomy
- Flu Vaccinations: Administer flu vaccines
- ECGs: Carry out ECGs as requested by clinical staff.
- Specimen Handling: Ensure specimens are correctly labelled, recorded, and prepared for transport.
- Clinical Room Preparation: Maintain stock levels and ensure rooms are clean and ready for each session.
- Fridge Maintenance: Check clinical fridges regularly
- Waste Management: Dispose of clinical waste and replace sharps bins in accordance with infection prevention and control (IPC) policies.
- Practice Audits: Participate in audits as directed by the audit lead.

The Misbourne practice operates across two
sites (St Peter and St Giles) with approximately 12,000 registered patients. The practice population is
relatively stable with a high proportion of middle-aged and elderly population,
as well as a good proportion of young families with children. We have been a
training and teaching practice for many years with current focus only on GP
training.
