Job summary

St Stephens Health Centre is seeking an experienced, proactive and highly organised Senior Administrator to join our friendly and supportive practice team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong administration, leadership and primary care experience to play a key role in the day-to-day running of a busy and patient-focused NHS practice. Working closely with management and wider leadership team, the successful candidate will help ensure our administrative and coding functions run smoothly, efficiently and to a high standard.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Administrator will coordinate and support the effective day-to-day running of the administration and coding teams, ensuring clinical and operational workflows are managed safely and efficiently.

Main duties include overseeing rotas and leave cover, coordinating key administrative processes linked to patient care, supporting document and coding workflows, and helping maintain effective communication across teams.

This role requires excellent organisational skills, the ability to demonstrate leadership skills by prioritising demands with confidence in a busy GP practice environment.

This is a varied and fast-paced role requiring excellent leadership, organisational skills, strong leadership capability and previous experience within a primary care or NHS setting.

Key responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operational workflows of the administration and coding teams
  • Coordinate clinical administration rotas, shift cover and annual leave to ensure safe service delivery at all times
  • Support the management of patient administration processes including referrals, registrations, safeguarding workflows, medical records and results handling
  • Lead on the coordination of coding and document management processes
  • Support the effective running of clinical sessions, room allocation and clinician rota structures
  • Work closely with management on staff induction, recruitment and succession planning
  • Provide senior operational cover across administration and reception functions where required
