Job summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our friendly and supportive team. This is a part-time role (25 hours/week) with set hours onMondays 11:0020:00andTuesdays 10:0019:00. The remaining hours are to be worked onFridays, with flexibility for the candidate to choose their preferred times.

As an ANP, you will provide high-quality, patient-centred care, offering an alternative and complementary service to that traditionally provided by GPs. You will manage a wide range of conditions across all age groups, including minor illnesses, minor injuries, and chronic disease management. You will be an independent prescriber, working autonomously within your scope of practice.

You will be expected to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients presenting with conditions such as UTIs, respiratory infections, skin conditions, minor injuries, and mental health concerns, among others. Some exclusions apply, such as children under 1, pregnancy-related issues, and musculoskeletal problems, which will be referred appropriately.

Main duties of the job

As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) at Stafford Health and Wellbeing, you will deliver high-quality, autonomous care to patients across all age groups. Working alongside the GP team, you will provide an alternative and complementary source of primary care, managing a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting same-day face-to-face and telephone consultations for minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Diagnosing, treating, and prescribing independently within your defined scope of practice.
  • Managing complete episodes of care, including follow-up and safety-netting.
  • Undertaking home visits where clinically appropriate.
  • Supporting patients with conditions such as UTIs, respiratory infections, skin conditions, minor injuries, mental health concerns, and more.
  • Collaborating with the wider clinical team to ensure safe, effective, and timely care.

You will not be expected to manage children under 1 year, pregnancy-related issues, or musculoskeletal problems, which will be referred to the appropriate clinician.

The ANP will be responsible for managing a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, conducting home visits, and delivering complete episodes of care. The successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse with advanced clinical training (at degree or masters level), an independent prescribing qualification, and experience in primary care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide same-day appointments for patients presenting with minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Independently assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients of all ages within scope of practice.
  • Prescribe medications appropriately and safely within defined clinical remit.
  • Deliver complete episodes of care, including follow-up and safety-netting.
  • Conduct home visits where clinically appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with practice policies.
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
  • Participate in clinical meetings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support the education and development of other staff where appropriate.

  • Minor injuries and sprains
  • Sore throats and thrush
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Menstrual bleeding, mastitis, breast lumps
  • Menopause-related concerns
  • Mens health issues (e.g., testicular lumps, prostate concerns)
  • Anxiety, depression, and other common mental health concerns

Exclusions When Patients Will Be Referred to Other Clinicians

Patients will be referred to a GP or other appropriate clinician in the following cases:
