Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dispensary Manager to join Chillington Health Centre. This position is permanent and full time.

Hours to be worked over a 5-day week. Exact working pattern to be agreed.

You will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to our Dispensary Team, ensuring that we deliver a safe, efficient and patient-focused dispensing service.

You will be responsible for a team of 4 dispensers. This role will suit an experienced dispenser seeking to an opportunity to utilise their leadership and management skills.

Main duties of the job

You will ensure the smooth running of our dispensary function and will be a key member of our management team. You will be responsible for ensuring that we function collaboratively for maximising dispensary profitability. You will work closely with managers of other teams to contribute towards the overall aims and objectives of the practice.

To be successful in this role you will be a qualified dispenser with experience of managing a team. You will have an established track record in day-to-day operational management of a dispensary or pharmacy and be able to demonstrate sound understanding of how to achieve efficient processes and maximise income.

Job description

Job responsibilities

a. To be responsible for planning and allocating work for all dispensary staff

b. To oversee all dispensing matters within the practice, checking colleagues dispensing as required

c. To dispense prescriptions for patients

d. To collect prescription charges from patients, cash up and balance monies received

e. To cross reference number and value of prescription charges against statements, ensuring accuracy

f. To effectively coordinate the requests for repeat prescriptions via telephone, email, online and over the counter

g. To ensure requests for repeat prescriptions are processed within a 48-hour timeframe

h. To manage the return of medicines from patients

i. To deal with uncollected medication in accordance with current policy

j. To effectively manage stock levels within the dispensary, ensuring adequate levels are held, minimising wastage and expenditure

k. To promote a safe and effective working environment, conforming to legislation, ensuring drugs are stored appropriately, within temperature parameters and securely

l. To effectively manage the cold chain process, ensuring all staff are aware of the requirement to accurately record temperatures and store items appropriately

m. To conduct stock-takes in accordance with guidance

n. To assist with QOF targets

o. To complete all necessary components of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme (DSQS)

p. To be responsible for the effective line management, appraisal and development of dispensary staff

q. To work with a supervisor to take responsibility for developing their own competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace

r. Report to the Practice Manager any significant events relating to Dispensary Ensuring compliance with CQC regulations and standards

s. Reviewing and updating Dispensary SOPS

t. Overseeing the Dispensary teams annual leave, liaising with the Practice Manager where appropriate

u. The overseeing of the endorsing and counting of all prescriptions

v. The monitoring of drugs costs to ensure that we are purchasing at best price

  • Qualified Dispenser (Pharmacy Technician, NVQ Level 3 or 2)
