Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Dispenser to join our friendly practice team.

The successful candidate would work within the dispensary team, providing support in the day-to-day running of the department. The ideal candidate would have an evidenced experience of using systmone and have worked within a general practice, community pharmacy or hospital environment.

This position requires the candidate to have completed an NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) and 1,000 hours of dispensing experience.

You must be accurate, have good communication skills, a team player and also be able to work flexibly in the absence of colleagues. The position is full time, however part time would be considered for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

To process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate in accordance with the principles of good practice.

Job responsibilities

Job summary:

To process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate in accordance with the principles of good practice.

Job responsibilities

To operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.

To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook.

To maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of computers when available and appropriate.

Dispensing repeat prescription requests received by telephone calls, email, fax, SystmOnline, from the outlying villages and those delivered to the surgery.

Dispensing private prescriptions.

Checking goods as and when they are delivered and recording generic details, stocking shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas using rotation method.

Removing out of date stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas and passing to the Senior Dispenser.

Disposal of returned unused medicines (except controlled drugs (CDs)).

Generating personally administered (PA) nurses prescriptions and sorting post-dated prescriptions.

Dealing with returned medication from patients.

Ensuring that drugs are correctly delivered and received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

Action medication requests and changes on hospital letters.

Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.

To promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the dispensary manager.

Open and close the Dispensary when required.

To cover the Dispensary Assistant role when necessary.

To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.

Further Job responsibilities

Generating monthly (managed) repeat prescriptions for the practice, liaising with the relevant partners over any necessary changes in medication

Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription. Whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or the duty doctor.

Dispense acute prescriptions.

Updating patients repeat screens, on doctors instructions.

Ordering appropriate quantities of goods via the wholesalers computer link when necessary.

Returning incorrect goods to wholesalers.

Disposal of returned controlled drugs (CDs).

Assist with the training of Dispensary Assistants and trainee Dispensers.

Carry out the annual stock, and periodic stocktakes, in dispensary.

Price listed stock.

Dealing with medication not collected by patients and returned to us by remote collection points.
