Job responsibilities
GENERAL
Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
Attending monthly protected learning time sessions (when scheduled to work on such days)
Maintain own GMC registration
Comply at all times with the practices health and safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the organisations incident reporting system
Comply with GDPR and the Access to Health Records Act (1990)
Understand and adhere to other statutory regulations that are required of the practice
Maintain confidential information obtained in the course of professional duties and records in line with practice and professional requirements
Undertake additional duties as may from time to time be necessary
Undertake any training required in order to maintain competency, including mandatory training (e.g. fire, manual handling, CPR)
CLINICAL
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, develop care plans for health
Provide counselling and health education
Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate
Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
Collect data for audit purposes
Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
Prescribe in accordance with the practices/Bostons prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, and will:

Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the teams performance

MANAGEMENT
Take part in weekly management/partnership meetings
Ensure effective communication within the practice team
Contribute to the development of the practice team in accordance with practice objectives
Assist in the development and implementation of practice clinical guidelines
Contribute to the practices achievement of its quality targets to sustain the high standards of patient care and service delivery
Participate in the formulation and delivery of standards and protocols, carry out audit/evaluation of programmes of care or services and report to the practice manager and GP partners as appropriate
OTHER
Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
Contribute to the summarising of patient records and Read coding patient data
Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
Qualifications and Registrations
This position requires the candidate to possess:
MB ChB/MBBS or equivalent
Vocational training evidence
Full registration with GMC
Inclusion on performers list
Full membership of medical indemnity organisation

Possess post graduate qualifications
Experience
This position requires the candidate to demonstrate:
Completion of VTS

To assist in the maintenance of clinical standards and to share in the efficient running of the service.

To maintain accurate patient records for users of the service, using the designated software system for the practice.

To ensure effective communication with colleagues and the wider health care community as appropriate when referring a patient.

- General
The responsibilities of the post will be the subject of ongoing review between the post holder and line manager. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties to meet the needs of this developing service.
- The post holder will be required to work flexibly, which may include additional hours to cover holidays and sickness.

- Attend all mandatory training courses and the updates and any study days as appropriate to the post.
