Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Lead Nurse to join our team at our busy, forward thinking GP Surgeries in Northallerton and our branch surgery in Hutton Rudby.
This position is 30 hours per week over 4 days (3 days at Mowbray House Surgery and 1 day at Hutton Rudby Surgery)
The successful candidate will be a fully qualified registered Nurse ideally with experience in primary care.
Main duties of the job
To provide leadership to the practice nurse team, in collaboration with the practice manager and general practitioners, and develop an effective, quality driven practice nurse service.

Role and responsibilities:
- Practice independently in accordance with NMC code of conduct and with reference to practice guidelines, appropriately referring to GPs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of care and utilisation of IT.
- Ensure continuation of own personal and professional development, facilitated by utilisation of clinical supervision networks.
- Practice nurse team leadership.
- Provide focus for nursing expertise within practice, advising nursing staff, appropriate to level of competence.
- Identify training needs of practice nurse team and actively promote life-long learning.
- Carry out annual appraisals, clinical supervision, and competency assessments of practice nurse team.
- Carry out home frailty assessments as per practice guidance and make referrals and care plans as appropriate.
- Share responsibility for ensuring effective inter-practice communication.
- Ensure skills of practice nurse team are appropriately and effectively used to deliver care.
- Ensure care is delivered by practice nurse team members with relevant and appropriate skills.
- Ensure an effective nurse appointment system, in collaboration with the practice manager.
- Ensure that efficient and appropriate stock control is in place.
- Ensure adequate and appropriate practice nurse cover is available within practice.
- Participate in the management review and identify learning from patient complaints, clinical incidents and near-miss events utilising a structured framework.
- Advance clinical nursing practice through the development of shared, evidence-based practice guidelines.
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate new health promotion and chronic disease management services.
- Undertake home visits
- Provide professional advice on practice developments, recommending changes to working practices in line with evidence-based knowledge.
- Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs is undertaken.
- Lead on infection control measures within the practice according to local and national guidelines.
- Attend Team Leaders meetings regularly.
- Delegate tasks to the Nursing team as appropriate.
- Communicate regularly with other practices in the area to share ideas and good practice.
The post holder is responsible for maintaining their Nursing and Midwifery Registration and Revalidation.
