Job summary
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Reception Call Handler to work in our large busy GP Practice. The post holder will ideally be familiar with a GP practice setting, however training can be provided.
Salary: Depending on experience
Hours: 23 hours per week over 3 days, Tuesday 5.5 hrs at Hutton Rudby Surgery, Wednesday 8am to 6.30pm and Friday 8am to 5pm both at Mowbray House Surgery

- Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to all patients and visitors to the practice
- Deal with general enquiries and make outgoing telephone calls, explain procedures and make new and follow up appointments

Main Duties and
Responsibilities:
Receive
all incoming telephone calls into the practice and respond to them according to
protocol. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and
prompt appropriate delivery.
Ensure
an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any
other visitors to the practice.
Deal
with all general enquiries, make outgoing telephone calls, explain procedures,
make new and follow-up appointments.
Explain
practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking
temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.
Enter
requests for home visits into the visit book, ensuring careful recording of all
relevant details and where necessary refer to duty doctor.
Advise
patients of relevant charges for private (non General Medical Services)
services, accept payment and issue receipts for same.
Enter
patient information on to the computer as required.
Make
and serve refreshments as required, ensure the kitchens are kept clean and
tidy.
When
last to leave at the end of the day, ensure that the building is totally
secured, internal lights are off and the alarm activated.
Ensure
that all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and
accurately.
Undertake
any other additional duties appropriate to the post as directed by the
Reception Team Leader or Practice Manager.
