Job Purpose
To provide a wide range of clinical and
administrative support to the nursing team.
The Health Care
Assistant will work under the direction and supervision of the
Practice Nurses and/or GPs to provide care for the Practice
Population both in the surgery setting and in patients own
homes and care/nursing home settings.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Support:
Will undertake the following:
Venepuncture; Patients health checks; BP recordings; Urinalysis; Peak flow measurements; Height and weight measurements; Ear Syringing; ECG recordings; Obtaining blood sugar readings; Collection of specimens as required; Assisting GPs and Practice Nurses with clinical procedures; Chaperoning; Assisting with minor surgery as requested by GPs or Practice
Nurses; Care of minor wounds and application of basic dressings; Removal of sutures/clips; Vaccinations under a PSD; Diabetic Healthcare checks within the surgery, patients own
homes and Care home/nursing homes
Administrative support:
Undertake basic administrative activities including:
Answering the telephone, receiving and transmitting messages; Form filing; Arrange patients appointments as necessary; Liaise with other health care professionals; Electronic patient record keeping; Stocking of rooms as necessary; Ordering of treatment room equipment and consumables as
necessary
