5 month Sabbatical locum GP

Job summary

Each session will be 17 patient contacts (16 for newly qualified GPs)

4 appointment blocks per session for visits, double slots for interpreters

Protected admin time + proactive housebound visiting sessions

Morning break for tea/coffee/walk to a local café

Daily lunchtime meetings for support to discuss referrals and complex patients

Weekly Clinical and Practice meetings

Named mentor

Optional working in a shared space

Modern purpose-built premises with private staff car park & cycle storage

GP training/undergraduate teaching

Main duties of the job

  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • Routine visiting of allocated housebound patients.

Pro-rata share of on call.

Pro-rata share of letters that come in, ie your letters and pro-rata share of other letters (those of doctors who no longer work here or who are on annual leave).

Buddying

This is looking at pathology results. It would be your responsibility to look at your own results whenever you are in, but also we have a buddying system, whereby you will be buddied to doctors who are on their day off - you would be expected to look at these to make sure nothing urgent needs actioning that day. If that person is on A/L, then you would need to action and file them.

Visits / scripts

The prescriptions are shared equally amongst doctors working a morning session.

A visit may be allocated to doctors working an afternoon session (if required).

  • Share the practices ethos of delivering high quality holistic clinical care.
  • Participation in continuing professional development, teaching and in practice education.
  • Ability to provide a full range of services to patients including antenatal and child health surveillance clinics.
  • Actively engage with the wider primary health care team including participation in PHCT meetings and clinical commissioning related activity (eg referrals meetings, audits etc)
  • Full participation in all in-house clinical governance activities
  • Confident with IT and comfortable with paperless practice, including good record keeping and communication and awareness of data protection issues
  • Ability to respond in a flexible way to fluctuations in workload
  • Have a good understanding of QOF and be prepared to contribute to delivering local enhanced services as required, as well as helping to maintain the practices excellent QOF score.
